Chateau Carmin is an 18+ D/s centered AU game that takes place on modern day Earth. Characters are altered to fit the setting; many aspects of their canon should remain, so this is not a wholly AU game. The FAQ covers more details on that.

The Chateau itself is located in New York City, and as such, a lot of the gameplay will take place there. However, the entirety of the planet is open to you. If you want your character to host a party for 10 of his or her friends in Aruba, you’re more than welcome to do so. If you want your character to run for President of the United States or mayor of New York, have at it. The game is designed to be flexible with all types of plots and character development.

Broadly speaking, the world is just like ours right now. The same musicians can be heard playing their songs on the radios. The same shows (with the exception of those represented by the characters in the game) come on TV. The difference is that, instead of where our world divides people as males and females, awarding privileges and discriminating based on gender, this version of the world divides them as dominants and submissives.

Things to keep in mind before apping into the game:
  • This is not a forced sex game but it is a very kink heavy game.

  • This is also a prose-heavy game. The majority of the action will take place in the log community. Closed and open logs are the bread and butter of the game. If you don’t like doing logs, this probably isn’t the game for you.

  • While there is a first-person community, it isn’t a network. Posts there are limited to phone calls, text messages, and emails. This means that if you make a call, you’re only calling one person, not everyone in the city. Emails can be sent to single or multiple people. To make a call, send a text, or send an email, the character must ICly have the other character’s contact information. However the character gets it is up to you.

  • Sex is not mandatory. This isn’t a forced-sex game. Characters can have it or not as they choose. As a player, you are welcome to thread it out, handwave it, or avoid it entirely.

  • There will be kink in this game. All posts will be labeled with the appropriate warnings, but kink will occur. Please be aware of that before applying to the game.

  • The D/s system is a world-wide aspect of society. This means that all characters must be registered as either dominant or submissive. Opting not to participate in sex threads doesn’t exclude your character from having to live in the society according to its dictates. If you’re uncomfortable with D/s themes, this isn’t the game for you.

  • The game permits canon characters and original characters. However, all characters must be AUed to fit the premise of the game. This doesn’t mean that supernatural characters aren’t permitted, but you’ll have to adapt the character’s canon to fit in with modern day society. This is the world they grew up in, there aren't any funky jamjar mechanics at play here.

  • Because each character will need to be in some way AUed to fit the universe, character doubles will not be permitted. For example, if someone apps Bruce Wayne from the Tim Burton movies, that’s the version of Bruce Wayne that will exist in the game. The version of Bruce from Batman Beyond will not be permitted.

  • Powers and abilities are permitted in the game, provided that they’re adapted to a more realistic world. Think the recent DC and Marvel universe movies as opposed to their comic counterparts. While there will be opportunities for characters to use their powers and abilities, the focus of the game isn’t on the powers and gamebreaking powers will need to be toned down so that they don’t do that.

  • Events and plots will occur in the game. Some will be sexual in nature and some will be general. Plots can run the genre gamut: action, adventure, horror, mystery, romance, science-fiction, suspense, thriller, you name it. The characters in the game will help determine what kind of plots and events we have. If there are a bunch of detective types, there may be a sweeping murder mystery. If there are a number of superheroes, the world might need saving from some kind of threat. Players are encouraged to suggest and run plots as well.
